I wonder if you'd guess that Polish fighters pilots while waiting for the next flight played... bridge. I really LOVE THIS GAME: it's a mix o maths [ probability ] technique and psychology. Exciting indeed!
And the Polish are still good at it! Just to mention an atomic pair
BALICKI-ZMUDZINSKI who are considered to be one of the best in the Gloval Village!
It would be really hard to mention all their trophies - the list is too long!
And Cezary Balicki nick: KGB :) is perceived not only to be a great technician but also the greatest warrior! I'm proud he's Polish and comes from Wroclaw!
It would be unfair not to mention the Polish input in the theory of bridge:
POLISH CLUB - a semi-natural bidding system, really effective
2D WILKOSZ opening - a Polish invention by a nestor of Polish bridge
Andrzej Wilkosz; it was so lethal that often forbidden in tournaments - Polish lobby was too weak
STRONG PASS systems developed by
Lukasz Slawinski - so effective and lethal that Polish players won so many trophies that finally they got forbidden - interesting why STRONG CLUB systems were OK....
I used to play
SSO Lambda - and recently on BBO we've decimated our opps so badly that they decided to leave the table :) I still use
Lambda Defence against any
1 CLUB opening - it's powerfull and my opps really hate it :))
